There’s no getting ‘round it, Kafkadiva are a bit different. With a sound that’s hard to pigeonhole, their songs combine riffy-bluesy-rock with soaring melodies and hard-to-ignore messages to which listeners never fail to relate. The result is an original-sounding, commercial and appealingly quirky 'multi-genre' indie rock-pop act with energy and impact.
Kafkadiva's live line-up is comprised of four seasoned and experienced musicians: singer and guitarist, Louise Wilson; bass player, Steve Chilton; drummer, Tony Norris; and guitarist and keyboardist, Jon Murdock.
With one album already under their belt (Big Toes & Fingers) Kafkadiva released their eagerly awaited clutch of twelve new, original tracks in the shape of ‘Dysfunctionormal’ in September 2018. This second album consists of a typically eclectic collection of self-penned songs which demonstrate the band’s musical versatility combined with lyrical honesty and trademark humour, and has received some impressive reviews.
Having played some notable gigs to date, including supporting the fantastic band-on-the-rise 'Hunter & the Bear" at the Leicester O2,
as well as the legendary Badfinger UK on their Leicester and Nottingham tour dates, Kafkadiva have organically grown a
loyal following and consistently continue to appeal to a broad demographic.
Whilst their influences are largely rooted in blues-rock (think Free and Cream) they also take inspiration from far more contemporary artists such as Portishead, Morcheeba and Urban Species. Essentially, all three band members love pop songs and endeavour to incorporate hooks and melodies that are singable and memorable - all topped with lyrics that often contain honesty and humour reminiscent of Chuck Berry and Ian Dury.
“We write totally freely,” explains singer and guitarist, Louise, “and all three of us agree to make music that has no ‘rules’. If a song comes out bluesy, or funky, or even dark - that’s fine. We still sound like ‘us’ because it’s us creating it and us playing it!”.
